Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan’s relationship with Pakistani fans has often been tense, with his social media handle frequently targeted by mocking remarks whenever India faces a loss. However, Pathan found himself on the winning side on Sunday, and he didn’t hold back.

Following Pakistan’s disappointing performance against India, Pathan took to X (formerly Twitter) to taunt his critics from across the border. “Jitne bhi padosi Bakwas Kar rahe the ab Batana SUNDAY kesa Raha??” he tweeted, directly addressing the mocking remarks from Pakistani fans.

Pathan also shared his thoughts on the sincere fans of Pakistani cricket, acknowledging their team’s efforts while pointing out their shortcomings. “And to all the honest Pakistani cricket fans. Your team did well in this game in many parts. Just couldn’t go to the finish line. Batting is thin. With this batting line up there always be trouble if pitch has something to offer and fielding is terrible to say the least,” he tweeted.

Pakistan is now facing the possibility of an early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 after a narrow 6-run defeat to arch-rivals India on June 9 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. This loss came on the heels of an unexpected defeat to tournament co-hosts USA, putting their advancement chances in serious jeopardy.

The Babar Azam-led side suffered one of the tournament’s biggest upsets on June 6 in Dallas, Texas, losing to the USA in a Super Over. The consecutive losses have left Pakistan on the brink, needing to win their remaining matches to stay in contention for the knockout stages.

As Pakistan grapples with potential early elimination, Pathan’s comments have added fuel to an already intense rivalry.
