At least 28 people, including women and children, lost their lives when a passenger bus overturned and fell into a ditch in Balochistan’s Washuk district on Wednesday morning. Rescue and Levies officials reported that approximately 22 individuals were injured in the accident and have been transported to the Civil Hospital in Basima for treatment.
The incident occurred due to a tyre burst on the bus, which was travelling from Gwadar to Quetta, according to rescue officials.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his condolences, offering prayers for the deceased and directing authorities to assist the injured. Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti also expressed his sympathies for the victims and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
This tragedy follows two similar incidents in May. In one, 13 members of the same family were killed, and nine others were injured when a truck plunged into a ditch in Punjab’s Khushab district. The accident, caused by a brake failure on Panj Pir Manawan Road, resulted in the truck driver losing control.
In another incident, 20 people died and 21 were injured after a passenger bus veered off a narrow mountain road and fell into a ravine in the remote Diamer district of Gilgit Baltistan. The crash occurred early Friday morning around 5:30 am in the Yashokhal area on the Karakoram Highway. The bus was en route from Rawalpindi to Gilgit, carrying at least 38 passengers, according to police reports.
