Recently, a message warning people to close ATMs and avoid online transactions has gone viral on social media platforms in Pakistan.
The alarming message claims that accessing a video titled ‘Dance of the Hillary’ will result in the loss of mobile phone data.
1LINK (Pvt) Limited said on Sunday no cyber threat had been observed on ATM and online banking ecosystem in the country as a “false message” was being circulated on different social media platforms.

“This is to inform the general public and allay the fears created by a false message being circulated on different WhatsApp groups and social media platforms, warning people to avoid using ATMs and online banking in Pakistan,” 1LINK, which is owned by a consortium of 11 banks, said in its press release.
A similar scare surfaced in 2017 during the ‘Wannacry Ransomware,’ cyber-attack, which targeted Microsoft Windows machines, including those used by banks, according to press release.
Last month, a cybersecurity company advised Pakistani citizens that public Wi-Fi networks should only be used when absolutely necessary due to their potential security vulnerabilities.
