WEB DESK: In a notable display of dissent, both current and former employees as well as shareholders of tech giant Apple have signed an open letter urging the company to discontinue its practice of matching employee donations to organizations that contribute to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and those supporting Israel’s military.

The letter, which marks the latest instance of internal dissent within Apple, follows in the wake of a recent campaign called Apples4Ceasefire. This campaign had specifically called on Apple to remove two organizations from its donation platforms that were found to fund settlements in the West Bank.

“We stand in solidarity with our colleagues in Apples4Ceasefire who have requested Apple remove two organizations funding illegal settlements from Benevity,” the letter stated. “We are amplifying that message, and asking that Apple must promptly investigate and cease matching donations to all organizations that further illegal settlements in occupied territories and support the IDF [Israeli army].”

The organizations highlighted in the open letter include Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, HaYovel Inc, One Israel Fund, the Jewish National Fund, and IsraelGives.

This call for action underscores growing concerns among some Apple employees and shareholders regarding the company’s charitable giving policies and its potential implications in perpetuating controversial geopolitical situations. It remains to be seen how Apple will respond to this latest demand from within its ranks.
