Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb issued an emergency alert for Lahore on Monday regarding the smog, appealing the public to keep doors and windows closed and to wear masks for protection.
She has issued a public advisory, appealing parents and schools to ensure that children wear masks outdoors.
Aurangzeb, further said that people with respiratory or heart issues should avoid going out unnecessarily.
She called for thorough vehicle checks, discouraging reasons of smog, such as burning crop residues.
Lahore is experiencing a significant rise in air pollution due to smog drifting in from Indian cities like Delhi, Amritsar, and Chandigarh which has caused high Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI).
The school timings in Lahore have also been changed due to the poor Air Quality Index (AQI) and the upcoming smog season.According to the notification issued on Wednesday, schools across the provincial capital will open from 8:45am to 2:45pm on weekdays. On Fridays, the school will end at 1:45pm.
The school timings have been changed for the next three months and will be effective from October 28 to January 31, 2025.
People are encouraged to report any violations related to smog prevention by using the helpline 1373 or the Green App provided by the government. These platforms allow citizens to notify authorities of actions that contribute to pollution, helping in the fight against worsening air quality.
