The University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (UAJK) has implemented a new dress code, prohibiting students from wearing T-shirts and jeans, in an effort to uphold the “dignity and sanctity” of the institution.
The policy applies to both students and staff, requiring them to adhere to a dress code that reflects local cultural and religious values.
Dress requirements
Under the new guidelines, female students are mandated to wear traditional shalwar qameez paired with a dupatta or gown, while male students are expected to wear dress pants and collared shirts, or traditional shalwar qameez.

The AJK university has also set grooming standards, advising students to maintain clean, well-styled hair that does not attract undue attention. Long hair must be tied back, and sunglasses are permitted only outdoors.
Prohibited attire
The policy outlines a list of clothing that is deemed unacceptable, including:
- Tight or see-through clothing
- Shorts or sleeveless shirts
- T-shirts with provocative language or images
- Torn clothing
- Jogging or exercise wear during class
- Excessive makeup or expensive jewelry
- Untidy, gaudy, or immodest outfits
- Unprofessional attire for formal events or interviews
- Explicit clothing
- Bare feet
Furthermore, the AJK univeristy management has warned that students who fail to comply with the dress code will face disciplinary action. The university stressed that the new regulations are designed to maintain a professional environment in line with local norms and to avoid distractions within the academic setting.
