Travelers heading abroad will face higher costs due to a recent increase in the federal excise duty (FED) announced in the budget. Airlines such as Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Saudi Air, and Emirates have raised the FED on their international tickets in response.

This change took effect on July 1. The FED on economy and economy plus tickets has surged by 150%.

Passengers who previously paid Rs5,000 in FED for economy tickets will now pay Rs12,500.  For those flying to the USA in Club Class, the duty has increased from Rs250,000 to Rs350,000.

Similarly, the duty for flights to Africa and the Middle East has risen from Rs75,000 to Rs105,000. For European destinations, the FED has jumped from Rs150,000 to Rs210,000.

Flights to Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East now have a duty of Rs210,000, reflecting a 40% increase.
