Afghanistan announce T20 World Cup 2024 squad

Afghanistan has announced its 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA in June. Rashid Khan will lead the team, with a few new faces joining the squad compared to the 2022 edition.

Notable additions include Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad. However, Hashmatullah Shahidi, who captained Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, is absent from the squad, having last appeared in a T20I match in 2022.

Youngster Nangyal Kharoti, who marked his international debut for Afghanistan against Ireland in March this year, has earned his place in the squad. The 20-year-old showcased his talent in that series, taking five wickets in three matches with an impressive economy rate of just 5.90.

Another promising young player to secure a spot is wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Ishaq, who represented Afghanistan in the 2020 and 2022 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cups.

Leading the spin department will be Rashid Khan, supported by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and seasoned campaigner Mohammad Nabi.

Meanwhile, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooq have retained their positions, forming Afghanistan’s fast-bowling lineup.
