WEB DESK: The acting governor of Punjab, Malik Ahmed Khan, has signed the defamation bill, despite earlier reservations expressed by Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan.
Governor Haider had previously emphasized the need for the government and the journalist action committee to collaborate on the Punjab Defamation Bill, which was passed by the provincial assembly about a month ago.
Speaking to reporters at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Attock, Haider noted that the bill had raised concerns among various stakeholders. He mentioned that, at his request, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the provincial assembly speaker had agreed to address these issues.

“The journalist community is not against the implementation of the bill,” Haider stated, “but they do have reservations on certain points.” He expressed optimism that the concerns of all stakeholders would be resolved amicably.
