Are the Oscars being cancelled this year?

Author Stephen King has said that he will not be voting for the Oscars this year due to the Los Angeles fires. He also believes the ceremony should be cancelled amid the devastation in LA.

The show remains set for Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

“Not voting in the Oscars this year. IMHO they should cancel them,” King wrote on Bluesky. “No glitz with Los Angeles on fire.”

Rumours regarding the Oscars

Hours after reports circulating that The 97th Oscars ceremony being cancelled amid Los Angeles wildfires, the Academy dismissed the news as false.

The UK tabloid newspaper posted a story on its website, titled “OSCARS THREAT – Oscars 2025 on verge of being cancelled as bosses secretly plot major changes to ceremony after LA wildfires.”

Dismissing the news, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that there is no plan to cancel the ceremony.

The report claimed, the only body responsible for decisions regarding this is the Academy’s 55-person board of governors.

While the wildfires have prompted some adjustments, such as extending the nominations voting period and postponing the Oscar Nominees Luncheon, the board has affirmed that the awards ceremony will proceed as planned.

Earlier, AFP also reported the Academy hasn’t changed the date of award ceremony till now.
