ISLAMABAD: Members of the National Assembly (MNA) have formally demanded an increase in their salaries, with the Treasury and opposition benches being unanimous on the matter.

As per reports, the parliamentarians demanded an increase in salaries in a meeting with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and urged the implementation.

The media reports alleged that the members of the National Assembly from the government and opposition complained that the salaries and benefits of members of provincial assemblies are higher I’m comparison to ours.

The Speaker sought budget details from the Accounts Department of the National Assembly Secretariat and assured taking the matter to the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

It was also learned that a bill for salary increase will be tabled in the National Assembly with the government’s consent.  Currently, the salary and TADA of a lawmaker is Rs 185,000 per month.

Furthermore, MNA Shaista Pervaiz tabled the Bill to give effect to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction, 1972 (The Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (implementation) Bill, 2024.

The report of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs was presented in the House.
