WEB DESK: United States President-elect Donald Trump has sharply criticised California officials for their handling of devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles, which have claimed at least 16 lives and displaced over 150,000 residents.
In his rant on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump condemned state leaders for incompetent handling of the matter, saying “The fires are still raging in LA They haven’t a clue how to put these things out: the incompetent pols.” In the same breath, he proceeded to describe the calamity as one of the worst as far as catastrophes are concerned in the history of this Country.
The fires have wreaked havoc on Los Angeles’ firefighting lines, as they rave, gathering swift and dry winds through the surroundings. Hydrants go priceless during the five fires roaring in the Pacific Palisades, while the worst affected areas suffer from a lack of water to feed fire-fighting efforts. Despite tremendous logistical challenges, fire teams have sacrificed sleep and rest in the line of duty to save famous sites such as the Getty Center Art Museum and to keep further destruction away from the densely populated San Fernando Valley.
Amid all the political criticism that has been directed at him, Governor of the State of California Gavin Newsom invited Trump to Los Angeles to see the carnage firsthand. Newsom insisted that the state continued with firefighting and recovery activities even while many people were asking several questions about their preparedness and allocations.
According to State officials, more than 12,000 structures have been burnt down by the flames and thousands of others are at risk. Trump, who will be back in the White House shortly from now, has politically transformed this disaster to hurl unproven accusations against the leadership of California, particularly its governor, a Democrat named Newsom.
