PESHAWAR: Unidentified gunmen shot dead two policemen in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.
Two police constables were shot dead by unidentified men in northwestern Pakistan on Monday, a police spokesperson said that the incident occurred in Nawab Khan Ziarat within the limits of Ghazni Khel police station.
Unidentified gunmen opened fire on police constable Himatullah and Constable Khan Bahadur when they were on their way to the police station from their village Kheru Khel Pakka of Lakki Marwat, said the district’s police spokesperson Shahid Marwat.
“On the way, both police officers were shot dead by unknown motorcycle-borne terrorists near Nawab Khan Ziarat within the limits of Ghazni Khel police station,” Marwat said.
Pakistan is witnessing s sharp increase in terror incidents after the return of the Afghan Taliban to power in August 2021. Since then, cross-border attacks against security forces and police officers have been on the rise in KP.
Pakistan has repeatedly provided credible evidence to the Afghan interim government regarding TTP involvement involved in cross-border attacks, but no action has been taken so far.
The alliance between the Afghan Taliban and the TTP poses a serious threat to global and regional peace.
Pakistan earlier last month week conducted airstrikes against Khwarij(a term used for TTP terrorists) inside Afghanistan.
The strikes target terrorist centres in Paktika border region that were training a large number of suicide bombers and terrorists responsible for attacks on Pakistan, and thousands of such operatives have reportedly been trained at these facilities.
More than 40 terrorists were killed in Pakistan’s strikes, with further heavy losses reported for the Khawarij group.
Last Month, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif drew a red line for Afghanistan on TTP and called on the Afghan government to adopt a comprehensive strategy to address the activities of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. He warned Kabul that a dual approach to the issue will not be tolerated.
