WEBDESK: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Pakistan on Thursday has installed its first locally-produced smog tower at Mehmood Booti, Lahore.
The smog tower, capable of purifying up to 50,000 cubic feet of air per hour, has undergone comprehensive clinical and laboratory testing, as confirmed by EPA Director General Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh during his visit to the site.
“This initiative aims to reduce pollution from industrial emissions, chimneys, and dumping sites,” said Dr. Sheikh. He also expressed gratitude to the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) for providing the location for this experiment.
The smog tower will undergo a 15-day field test to assess its effectiveness. Air quality monitors will measure the reduction in harmful chemical particles during this period. If successful, the project could lead to the installation of more smog towers across Punjab.
“This experiment has been conducted with the assistance of private sector engineers, and the Punjab government has incurred no costs,” Dr. Sheikh added. He said that the EPA welcomes collaborative efforts from the private sector to combat environmental challenges.
The experimental tower is a major step by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) toward combating air pollution in the country.
