LAHORE: Lahore’s police have launched a dedicated Cyber Squad to combat aerial firing, illegal weapon displays, and their promotion on social media ahead of the New Year celebrations.

Deputy Inspector General Operations, Faisal Kamran, announced that a special action plan has been devised to prevent these dangerous activities. He highlighted that the Cyber Squad, along with specialised police teams, will be deployed in high-risk areas during New Year and Christmas festivities to monitor and address the illegal display of firearms and aerial firing on social media platforms.

Kamran further stated that strict legal action will be taken against individuals involved in such activities, with perpetrators facing imprisonment. This year alone, 831 individuals have been arrested for aerial firing and weapon display, and 505 cases have been filed.

Highlighting the dangers of aerial firing, Kamran stressed that stray bullets can lead to tragic loss of life. He urged citizens not to turn joyous occasions into moments of grief by engaging in such reckless acts.

The police have called for public cooperation in preventing these crimes, encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activities by calling the emergency number, 15.
