MUMBAI: Bollywood superstar Rani Mukerji is all set to beat up the bad guys in Mardaani 3.

The fierce cop Shivani Shivaji Roy is returning with the third installment in the Mardaani franchise produced by YRF Entertainment.

According to Indian media, the film is scheduled to begin production in the first quarter of 2026 as soon as the script gets locked. Helmed by the Loveyatri director Abhiraj Minawala, the film is being written by The Railway Men writer Aayush Gupta.

On the occasion of Mardaani 2’s release anniversary, YRF took to social media to tease fans with the poster of the much-anticipated Mardaani 3.

Meanwhile, the lead actress Rani Mukerji, while talking to the media said: “I’m thrilled to announce that we are starting shooting of Mardaani 3 in April 2025. This role is my tribute to the brave, self-sacrificing police officers who work tirelessly to protect us.”

“We aimed to find a script that raises the experience of watching a Mardaani film. What we have is dark, deadly, and brutal,” the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai starlet added.

Mardaani resides in public’s hearts

The Mardaani franchise, launched in 2014, has been celebrated for its gritty portrayal of a female cop battling societal evils. Both earlier films garnered critical and commercial success. Mardaani (2014) directed by late legendary director Pradeep Sarkar minted INR600 million, whereas Gopi Puthran directed Mardaani 2 earned INR670 million at the box office.

It would be unfair to talk about Mardaani franchise without mentioning the OG villains who made the films a big deal. Tahir Raj Bhasin (Mardaani) leveled up the movie with his stellar performance, while, Vishal Jethwa earned unanimous praise for his excellent portrayal as the antagonist in Mardaani 2.

Let’s wait and see how dark and intense Mardaani 3 will be, and who will step in to face off against Rani Mukerji in this gripping new chapter.
