ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the government not to push PTI supporters toward protests, on Wednesday.
He urged the parliament to provide justice to families of party workers allegedly killed by law enforcement agencies (LEAs) during a protest in D-Chowk, Islamabad, in the late hours of November 26-27.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament House, Khan encouraged that all citizens have the right to peaceful protest. “It was a grave injustice to our workers who were fired upon. Nowhere in the world do law enforcement agencies open fire on protestors,” he said.
The PTI Chairman grieved the inefficacy of previous investigative commissions and was disappointed that even so, such occurrences have not led to accountability.
About the latest developments, he commented that the PTI’s committee for dialogue with the government should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness. “None of our protestors was armed that fateful day,” he said and demanded actions against the guilty. “There has to be an end to the reign of terror,” he added.
Barrister Khan dismissed the reports, indicating that discussions with the government would begin on Wednesday. Further, he reiterated that all attempts would be made to keep political matters within negotiations.
Statements made by the PTI chief come against the backdrop of recent spats between the party and the government concerning accountability and justice.
