WEB DESK: The Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) has released its comprehensive review of voter participation in Pakistan’s 2024 general elections. According to the report, a record number of Pakistanis cast their votes, with 61.2 million voters—resulting in a voter turnout of 48 per cent.
The report also discloses the fact that voter turnout in the 2018 elections stood at 52 per cent, while the addition of new voters in the country before the conduction of the 2024 elections increased to a total of 22.5 million.
Among the main findings, the report noted that female voters surpassed their male counterparts in registration for the 2024 elections: 12.5 million women compared with 10 million men. The gender gap in turnout has also slightly narrowed, from a 10 per cent gap in 2018 to 9 per cent in 2024.
However, the ECP rejected the FAFEN’s analysis, describing it as baseless as far as misunderstanding is concerned. This notwithstanding, the report still has some great value and trends that describe the scenario with respect to the insights into the behavior of voters during the elections of 2024.
