Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has approved financial support for the delegation to US to release neuroscientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is being imprisoned in the US.
Regarding this, the Islamabad High Court was notified. Due to personal problems, Irfan Siddiqui would not be joined by the delegation.
The federal government told the IHC in October that a delegation headed to the US to free Dr Aafia. The delegation will include doctors, Aafia’s sister Fouzia Siddiqui, retired or active military officials, past and current legislators.
Last week the IHC was advised that a lack of response from the White House, the State Department, and the Department of Justice threatened the scheduled visit of the Pakistani team to the US demanding the release of Dr Aafia.
A statement released by the Aafia Movement claims that although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made several requests to arrange talks with US officials, these were turned down.
