DUBAI: Greg Barclay’s term as chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) has come to an end and Indian Cricket Board Chief Jay Shah become the new leader. Jay Shah assumed his responsibility today (Sunday).
Jay Shah said that it is an honour to become the ICC Chairman. He said he thankful to all the board members.
Jay Shah is the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Succeeding Greg Barclay, the 35-year-old became the youngest chief of the cricket’s world governing body.
It was previously reported that there was a possibility of a one-week extension to Barclay’s term.
It was earlier reported that the Indian administrator will assume his role on December 1, 2024, after Barclay decided not to seek a third term after first being appointed for the position in 2020.
Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the new ICC Chairman.
Jay Shah’s journey in administration commenced in the year 2009 when he became a member of the executive board of the Central Board of Cricket, Ahmedabad.

Shah later became the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) and helped in building the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during September 2013. Subsequently, in 2015, Shah joined BCCI as a member of the finance and marketing committee.
He even became the youngest secretary of BCCI, at the mere age of 31 years, in the year 2019. However, his role in the BCCI was extremely significant as Indian cricket took major steps to strengthen its position in the world.
