RAWALPINDI: The physical remand of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has been extended by six days, with the court ordering his next appearance on December 2.
Public Prosecutor Zahid Shah argued that the PTI founder was hindering the investigation process, saying that his lack of cooperation had slowed down progress. “He has refused to participate in the investigation, which has further delayed the proceedings” he added.
The prosecutor also mentioned that the police had gathered evidence related to the protest call and had seized records of the PTI founder’s meetings in jail.
Furthermore, letters were sent to PEMRA, FIA, and PID to obtain additional evidence.
The prosecutor requested an extension of the remand, citing Imran Khan’s refusal to provide a statement. However, the defense counsel opposed the extension, arguing that the PTI founder was accused of inciting violent protests, with no recoveries being made in the case.
The request for an extended remand was granted by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah. The case, registered at the New Town police station in Rawalpindi on September 28, accuses the PTI founder of inciting his supporters to take part in violent protests.
