PESHAWAR: A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court seeking to halt the protest rally announced by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for November 24, 2024.
The petitioner, Jalal Ud Din, a resident of Peshawar, has challenged the use of public resources for political activities and the alleged neglect of governance duties by the provincial administration.
The petition, filed through Advocate Afroz Ahmad, argues that the KP government is misusing public machinery, including Rescue 1122 services, fire brigades, and local government equipment, to support its political agenda. The petitioner claims that such actions infringe upon the fundamental rights of citizens by diverting essential resources away from public welfare.
“The KP government has failed to fulfill its responsibilities toward governance and public welfare. Instead, it is focusing on political motives, causing significant disruption to education, healthcare, and economic activities in the province,” stated the petitioner in the plea.
Citing a previous instance where fire brigade vehicles were redirected for a political rally, resulting in delayed emergency responses, the petition highlights the risks posed by the misuse of government resources.
The petitioner has urged the court to declare the protest rally illegal, prohibit the use of public resources for political purposes, and take immediate action as the protest is imminent.
The petition raises concerns over the potential impact on the province’s economy, law and order, and public services, calling on the Chief Minister and the government to prioritize governance over political activities.
The court is expected to take up the matter in light of its urgency, as the protest rally is just days away.
