ISLAMABAD: Every Pakistani, whether in uniform or not, is a soldier in the fight against terrorism, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir said during the apex committee meeting.
He remarked during the apex committee meeting of the National Action Plan on Tuesday presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Other attendees include heads of intelligence agencies, provincial chief ministers, and key federal ministers, alongside senior civil and military leadership.
The apex committee conducted a detailed review of the overall law and order situation in the country with a main focus on the implementation status of the National Action Plan for Counter-Terrorism.
During the top security meeting, Army Chief Gen Asim Munir stressed the need for collective efforts to combat the menace of terrorism, highlighting that the Constitution of Pakistan mandates the armed forces to ensure Pakistan’s internal and external security.
The Army Chief warned that anyone obstructing the nation’s security or hindering their mission would face serious consequences.
He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies, who continue to address governance shortcomings daily, often at the cost of their lives.
While addressing the apex committee meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan has no choice, but to crush the terrorism.
Talking about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest, the premier called for prioritising peace and progress of the country over protests and sit-ins. “They should think rationally if the sit-in was in the country’s interest.”
PM Shehbaz extended special thanks to the provinces including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for their support in achieving success in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
Shehbaz Sharif added that the “country’s economy was gradually heading towards stability” and acknowledged the collective efforts of the federation, provinces, institutions, and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General General Asim Munir.
Urging the participants to play their role in the improvement of the economy, the prime minister highlighted that economic and political stability is vital for the country’s progress and prosperity.
