ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Tuesday directed news channels not to use sensational thumbnails that cause panic among people.
“It has been observed with grave concern that despite adherence to subject directives, satellite TV channels in order to attract public attention on their digital media accounts are uploading thumbnails which are not only fake but also do not commensurate with the attached post.
“Satellite TV channels are uploading such sensational thumbnails which may create unrest, panic, insecurity and uncertainty among the viewers,” read the directive issued by PEMRA.
“All satellite TV channel licensees are hereby once again directed to ensure that content of their broadcast media channel(s) which is/are available on satellite including channel name/logo shall not vary, alter, substitute, tempered on digital platforms or any other similar forum,” it added.
“Further, all satellite TV channels are directed to upload statement or title mentioned on the thumbnail must commensurate with the story/post of all social media platforms such as youtube, tik tok, facebook, instagram, whatsapp channels. 4. In case of any violation observed, reported or identified through any complainant, legal action under Section 29-A, 30 of PEMRA Ordnance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2023 shall be initiated. 5. This issues with approval of the Chairman, PEMRA.”
