PMD forecasts rain, snowfall in parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rains in many parts of the country with a snowfall in mountainous regions over next few days.

It will be a great sign of relief for many parts as Pakistan is battling severe air pollution, with an annual Air Quality Index (AQI) of 160, more than 14.7 times the World Health Organization’s air quality guidelines.

According to PMD, cloudy skies are expected over Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.

Murree, and Galiyat, with rain and light snowfall likely in the mountainous areas.

The Pothohar region and northeastern Punjab may also see partly cloudy skies, with a chance of rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms in some areas.

Skardu and Gupis have already recorded near-freezing temperatures. Rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall are expected to affect Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Shangla at higher altitudes.

Meanwhile, much of Punjab remains under a smog alert, with dense fog expected to persist overnight. Balochistan and Sindh are expected to experience dry weather, with cool temperatures in the mountainous areas.

Over the past 24 hours, dry weather has prevailed across most of the country, except for Punjab, which has been significantly impacted by smog.

The PMD also forecasts foggy conditions in Karachi on Monday and Tuesday, which could reduce visibility. Sea breezes and winds from Balochistan are anticipated to affect the city.

In Karachi, minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 21°C for the next three days, with maximum temperatures ranging between 33°C and 35°C.

Other districts in Sindh may experience warm and dry weather due to lingering fog.
