The Government of Punjab Schools Education Department on Wednesday issued a notification regarding the closure of educational institutions in Punjab till November 17, due smog situation in the province.

“It is hereby notified that all educational intuitions (public/private), including private tuition centres up to Higher secondary level (12th grade) should remain closed from November 7 to November 17,” read the notification issued on November 6.

The notification states that the holidays will be observed in the territorial jurisdiction of Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Multan divisions.

“The order should be enforceable in districts of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Lodhran, Wahari and Khanewal,” added the notification.

According to the notification, online classes will be conducted in the districts mentioned above.

The smog holidays have only been announced for up to grade 12, and no holidays have been applied for universities.

The smog situation in Punjab, especially in Lahore, continues to worsen, with air quality index (AQI) levels recorded above safe limits on Wednesday.
