Pakistan’s top cueist Muhammad Asif on Wednesday claimed the IBSF World Snooker Championship title, defeating Iran’s Ali Gharahgozlou with a score of 5-3 in Doha, Qatar.

In the final match, Asif outclassed Ali in the opening frame by 70-25. However, the Iranian player leveled the contest with a score of 94-7. Pakistan’s ace cueist regained the rhythm, winning the third frame by 62-8 and the fourth frame with a flawless 106 clearance break.

The 42-year-old further claimed the fifth frame 82-12 and eight with a 93-point break. The sixth and seventh frames were won by an Iranian opponent with a score of 43-91(58), and 0-118, respectively.

Asif, who won the championship for the third time, entered the tournament as a qualifier, after receiving a wild card nomination to the event from the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA).

Mohammad Asif previously won the individual world snooker title in 2012 and 2019. He has also clinched two team titles, making him Pakistan’s most decorated cueist in history with five world titles.
