Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday laid the foundation of Nawaz sharif cancer hospital in Lahore.
“Today, by the grace of Allah, the long-cherished wish of Nawaz Sharif is being fulfilled,” said Maryam during her address at the opening ceremony.
According to a press release issued by CM Punjab’s office the hospital will offer free treatment to patients in all stages of cancer, including those in advanced stages (Level 3 and Level 4). The hospital will be constructed in two phases and will feature 915 beds.
In the first phase, a bone marrow centre, cancer care clinic, and mosque will be built. The second phase will involve the construction of a new building and a parking plaza.
The Chief Minister has directed that the project be completed within one year and stated that the institute will include paediatric oncology, operating theatres, radiation therapy bunkers, an ICU, and an emergency ward with 30 beds.
“The hospital will also feature facilities for caretakers, a waiting hall, and residential quarters for doctors. In the first phase, a bone marrow centre, cancer care clinic, and a mosque will be constructed. The second phase will involve the construction of a new building and a parking plaza,” stated the press release from the Chief Minister of Punjab.
She further shared that her late mother passed away due to cancer, expressing her personal understanding of the pain of such loss.
Maryam Nawaz also said that this hospital is not only for the people of Punjab but for the entire nation, saying, “Punjab has opened its heart to the people of all provinces.”
