The Punjab government is set to outsource the management of 150 Basic Health Units (BHUs) across the province, aiming to improve service quality and accessibility, as reported by the media.
The reports indicate the initiative spearheaded by the department of Primary and Secondary Health Care, is set to roll out in phases beginning with the aegis of 150 BHUs. Beneficiaries of these will be one hundred BHUs functioning only within specified standard hours while fifty will render services all the hours of the day and night.

Eight health units in Lahore are scheduled for inclusion in this first phase, as part of a broader effort to enhance healthcare access in both urban and rural areas. To support ongoing maintenance, the government has allocated Rs500,000 per health center annually.
Funding and long-term goals
To kickstart the outsourcing project, the Department of Primary Health has requested Rs1.5 billion from the Provincial Finance Ministry. The project is expected to significantly bolster healthcare provision across the region, with further phases planned to increase the reach and quality of services in the future.
