The Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a smog alert for Lahore, as the city’s air quality index has dropped to dangerous levels on Sunday with the winter season approaching.

The alert was issued after the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI), according to IQ Air briefly soared to 700, normal levels are below 50.

The alert also advised citizens to check AQI levels before stepping out and to plan outdoor activities accordingly.

School timings changed in Lahore

The school timings in Lahore have also been changed due to the poor Air Quality Index (AQI) and the upcoming smog season.

According to the notification issued on Wednesday, schools across the provincial capital will open from 8:45am to 2:45pm on weekdays. On Fridays, the school will end at 1:45pm.

The school timings have been changed for the next three months and will be effective from October 28 to January 31, 2025.

The Punjab Environment Protection Department has issued directives to the relevant authorities to take necessary measures in light of the increase in air pollution.
