The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced plans to recruit 17,000 teachers to address significant staffing shortages in schools across the province. This decision was revealed by the Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education, Faisal Khan Tarakai, during a meeting focused on reviewing the recruitment policy.
The minister stated that the recruitment advertisement will be published shortly, emphasizing that filling these vacancies is a top priority. He noted that the urgent need for new hires arises from the recent promotions and retirements within the education sector, leaving many positions unfilled.

In addition, Tarakai instructed education department officials to compile a comprehensive report on teachers currently on long-term leave or seconded to other departments. He indicated that these teachers’ leaves would be canceled immediately to ensure that schools are adequately staffed.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to education, Tarakai highlighted that teachers must focus solely on their teaching responsibilities. He also directed that any teachers assigned to administrative roles should be returned to their original teaching positions, with a report on these changes expected within a week.
Regarding the financial aspects of this recruitment drive, the minister confirmed that the new teachers would fill existing vacancies, meaning there would be no extra financial burden on the provincial budget. An NOC from the Finance Department will be sought promptly to facilitate this process.
