A Woman has been arrested from Karachi for spreading misinformation regarding alleged rape at Lahrore’s private college.
A case was registered against the woman at Gulberg Police Station under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the woman has been transferred from Karachi to Lahore, where she is currently being interrogated.
In her initial statement, the suspect, identified as Sarah Khan, admitted to posting the video on social media to gain views.
Police stated that Sarah Khan will be presented before a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to record her formal statement.
This arrest brings the total number of cases registered for spreading unverified news to four.
The alleged rape case has dominated social media since the news broke, sparking protests in various cities across Punjab, particularly in Lahore, where at least 150 students were arrested. Punjab’s Chief Minister stated that no rape occurred and that the unrest was fueled by misinformation and propaganda.
