Renowned Indian filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has officially announced plans to revive the popular Munna Bhai film series, with OG Munna Bhai Sanjay Dutt set to return as the iconic character. Fans of the beloved franchise can expect a fresh installment, though Hirani is focused on surpassing the success of the previous films.
Hirani revealed that he is working on five half-finished scripts for Munna Bhai 3, including possible titles such as Munna Bhai LLB, Munna Bhai Chal Base, and Munna Bhai Chale Amreeka. Despite the creative challenges, the director is determined to deliver a sequel that lives up to the legacy of the series. “The next installment has to get better,” he stated.

Hirani admitted that finding a unique storyline for the third installment has been difficult. “I spent six months on a script, reached the interval, and it just wouldn’t go beyond that,” he explained, adding that after a century of cinema, most stories have already been told. However, Hirani remains optimistic. “But yeah, I am working on that idea,” he assured fans.
Sanjay Dutt, who is eager to reprise his role, has been pushing Hirani to complete the project. The director humorously mentioned that Sanjay Dutt might “come home and threaten” him to speed up the Munna Bhai 3 scripting process. Despite the pressure, Hirani is committed to prioritising the quality of the film, aiming to create a memorable experience for audiences.

The original plan for Munna Bhai 3, titled Munna Bhai Chale America, was shelved following Dutt’s legal issues and imprisonment. Now, with a fresh vision, Hirani seeks to build on the success of Munna Bhai MBBS (2003) and Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006).
Hirani’s filmography, which includes hits like 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju, and the upcoming Dunki, further highlights his dedication to quality cinema. “Rushing the project is not an option,” the director said.
