Stree 2 starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao has emerged as the most profitable film of 2024, raking in over ₹600 crore at the Indian box office.
Made on a modest budget of ₹60 crore, the horror-comedy sequel has become a blockbuster hit, grossing ₹625.27 crore in Hindi alone, making it the second-highest Bollywood earner after Jawan, which amassed ₹640.42 crore across all languages.
The film, released on August 15, 2024, coincided with India’s Independence Day and faced stiff competition from Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa. Despite the clash, Stree 2 dominated screens nationwide, enjoying a successful theatrical run for over 1.5 months before transitioning to streaming platforms.

Shraddha Kapoor on credit debate
While the film’s success has been undeniable, debates have surfaced over who deserves credit for the massive achievement. Shraddha Kapoor addressed the controversy during a Screen Live session, praising Stree 2 entire production team.
“The love for the first Stree was immense, and it all started there. Hats off to the director, writer, and producer for cracking a sequel that wasn’t just for the sake of it. You need substance to draw people to theatres and gain genuine appreciation,” she said.
Shraddha Kapoor highlighted that the sequel’s success was due to a collective team effort, acknowledging the cast, writers, and crew for staying true to the essence of the original film while delivering a fresh narrative.
“It was pure cinematic joy. Ultimately, it’s the audience who decides, and we’re thrilled we could deliver what they came for,” she added.
Amid the film’s tremendous success, Kapoor also confirmed that Stree 3 is already in development, with director Amar Kaushik working on the story. The actress, however, revealed that she has yet to hear the full plot.
