PM Shehbaz addresses SCO summit

The 23rd meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) has officially kicked off at the Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad.

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has addressed the day two of SCO.

The premier recalled that when assuming the role of the SCO CHG chair, Pakistan had reaffirmed its “commitment to regional peace, stability and enhanced connectivity and sustainable socio-economic development”.

“Our collaboration, joint teamwork expands academic and tourism linkages, poverty alleviation, empowerment of women and youth across the SCO region. reflection and commitment of our determination to promote prosperity through unity,” PM Shehbaz asserted.

Prior to the conference, leaders from the SCO members posed for a group photo at the JCC.

World leaders gather at Jinnah Convention for SCO summit

Several world leaders, including heads of state, gathered at the Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad for SCO summit.

According to reports, PM Sharif is present at the venue.

Mongolia’s PM Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, Indian Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar and Vice President of Turkmenistan Raşit Meredow and others arrived to attend the summit.

All the leaders from the world arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday, the discussions will cen­ter around trade, economic cooperation, and regional connectivity within the Eurasian political and security bloc.

The meeting is being attended by the heads of government of eight member states, while Iran and India will be represented by their trade and external affairs ministers, respectively, after Iranian first vice president Mohammad Reza Aref had to pull out at the last minute due to the evolving regional situation requiring his presence in Tehran.

SCO claims to represent 40 per cent of the world’s population and about 30 per cent of its Gross domestic product (GDP).
