In preparation for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, the Islamabad Traffic Police has introduced a special traffic plan to facilitate residents during the event. Over 585 officers will be deployed to ensure smooth traffic management throughout the summit.
To minimize disruption, alternative routes have been established for citizens. Key roads, including the routes from Malpur to Kashmir Chowk and Serena Hotel, will be temporarily closed. Similarly, traffic from Rawal Dam Chowk to Serena will be restricted, as well as access to Aabpara and Srinagar Highway towards Serena Hotel.
For convenience, those traveling from Murree or Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi are advised to use Korang Road, Park Road, and Rawal Dam Chowk as alternative routes. Similarly, commuters from Faizabad heading towards Bhara Kahu and Murree can use Park Road and Bani Gala routes.
Heavy traffic, particularly from Peshawar to Lahore, will be directed via Taxila Motorway or Tarnol crossing. Vehicles from Lahore towards Islamabad will be rerouted to Chak Beli Road and Chakri Motorway.
In addition, traffic from F-5, G-5, and G-6 sectors heading towards Rawalpindi will use 9th Avenue, while those on Faisal Avenue heading towards Zero Point will also be diverted to 9th Avenue.
For traffic from Rawalpindi entering Islamabad, alternative routes via Murree Road and 9th Avenue will be available. Similarly, movement between Zero Point and Koral Chowk on the Expressway will be restricted, with service roads serving as alternatives.
Heavy traffic will be restricted from entering Islamabad from October 14 to 16, 2024.
Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfaraz Virk urged citizens to cooperate and use alternative routes during the summit. He assured that traffic police will be on hand to guide commuters and provide updates via FM Radio 92.4 and other social media channels.
