Argentina’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, has been handed a two-match suspension by FIFA for “offensive behavior” and violating fair play principles.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) expressed strong disapproval of the decision, which stems from two separate incidents during World Cup qualifiers.

Martinez, 32, was first penalized for a crude gesture with a replica Copa America trophy after Argentina’s win over Chile on September 5.

In another incident, he damaged a TV camera following Argentina’s defeat to Colombia on September 10. As a result, the Aston Villa star will miss Argentina’s upcoming qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia.

Martinez has been a crucial figure in Argentina’s recent successes, including their Copa America and World Cup triumphs. His absence could impact Argentina’s lead in the South American qualifiers.
