Lahore tram project unlikely to be completed on time

The Punjab government’s plan for a tram service in Lahore is facing serious delays, making its future uncertain.

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has not been able to secure the required funds of three crore rupees needed for the feasibility study.

According to LDA sources, the tram project is now at risk of being shelved indefinitely due to ongoing tensions between the transport authorities and the LDA.

The LDA had previously submitted a request for funding to support a project estimated to cost over 27 billion rupees, but this request has yet to be approved.

Before the Champions Trophy, the LDA had announced intentions to complete the tram project, which was expected to connect key areas like Kalma Chowk, Gaddafi Stadium, Main Boulevard Gulberg, MM Alam Road, and Hussain Chowk.

The tram service aimed to improve pedestrian access in busy commercial zones by limiting vehicle and heavy traffic. With funding challenges and lack of progress, the future of the Lahore tram service remains bleak.
