The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police arrested Station House Officer (SHO) Asim Ali Zaidi of the Sangjani police station on Saturday for unlawfully detaining two citizens without filing any charges against them, a police spokesperson said.

The spokesperson confirmed that SHO Zaidi had held two Kashmiri citizens, Shahbaz Sharif and Muhammad Saeed, in detention for 19 days without registering any case.

The officer now faces charges under Section 342 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which addresses wrongful confinement, and C-155 of the Police Order. The arrest followed an internal report filed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tarnol Circle, Ansar Ahmed.“The ICT Police operate under a strict self-accountability system,” the spokesperson said, adding that Zaidi had been presented before Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Azhar Nadeem.

The court approved the police request for a judicial remand, sending Zaidi to jail pending further legal proceedings.
