Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, known for her versatility and striking performances, recently opened up about the key figures who have inspired her in her acting journey.
In an interview with Allure magazine during the promotions for her upcoming film Jigra, the actress revealed that her acting choices and performances are influenced by three major Bollywood stars: Shah Rukh Khan, Rekha, and Aishwarya Rai.
Alia, who debuted with Student of the Year and has since risen to stardom with several hit films, is married to actor Ranbir Kapoor, and the couple are parents to their daughter, Raha Kapoor.
Aishwarya Rai’s impact on Alia’s dance performances
During the interview, Alia Bhatt shared how Aishwarya Rai has shaped her approach to dance in films. She explained that Aishwarya’s grace and precision in iconic dance sequences deeply influenced her own performances. Alia revealed that whenever she had a dance sequence to shoot, she would watch Aishwarya’s songs on YouTube to observe her movements and expressions.
Alia elaborated, saying:
“When it comes to learning or being inspired by someone who has embodied dance in the most beautiful way on screen, I can’t help but think of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan… I’d look at all her songs just to catch the expressions and the ease with which she transitions between moves. She’s always so perfect and precise.”
Alia also mentioned that Aishwarya had mentored her at various points in her career, providing guidance both on and off the screen.
Rekha’s influence on Alia’s confidence and beauty standards
Alia also spoke about veteran actress Rekha, who she considers an “icon for the ages.” Rekha’s timeless beauty and elegance, according to Alia, have set unmatched standards in Indian cinema. The younger actress shared that Rekha played a crucial role in helping her navigate high-pressure moments and embrace her own confidence.
“Rekha redefined beauty in Indian cinema. Whether it was her iconic red lips, her long hair, or the flowers in her hair, she left a lasting impact with her beauty standards that resonated both in India and around the world,” Alia said, adding that Rekha’s inner confidence and grace were qualities she aspired to emulate.
Shah Rukh Khan’s unmatched presence in iconic scenes
Alia also acknowledged Shah Rukh Khan, her Dear Zindagi co-star, as a significant influence, especially when it comes to creating memorable scenes on screen. She admitted to being mesmerized by his portrayal of ‘Raj’ in the iconic “palat” scene from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ). Like many, Alia said she often dreams of recreating such iconic moments in her own work.
“No one can create iconic scenes like Shah Rukh Khan. The ‘palat’ scene in DDLJ is something every girl dreams of living out in real life,” Alia shared, adding that Shah Rukh’s unique ability to make such moments memorable has left a lasting impression on her acting journey.
