Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has green-lit the provision of housing loans to residents based on plot ownership and identity card documents. This scheme, “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar,” aims to assist citizens in building their homes and is a first-of-its-kind effort in Pakistan.
The announcement came during a provincial cabinet meeting, which also approved two additional projects: the Green Tractor Scheme and a Children’s Heart Surgery Program.

The cabinet has decided to grant loans of up to Rs1.5 million for home construction, repayable over nine years with a fixed monthly installment of Rs14,000 and no extra charges.
In a significant policy shift, the cabinet also approved increases in penalties for illegal weapon possession and kite-flying offenses. These new measures include heightened fines and longer prison sentences.
Moreover, the Punjab government will offer 9,500 tractors to farmers at subsidized rates. Each tractor purchase will come with a Rs1 million subsidy. The Green Tractor Program will begin on September 20, with a draw scheduled for October 20.
