Local Buyers Struggle as Prices Soar
As prices rise, local buyers are finding it difficult to afford donkeys, leading to a slowdown in the domestic market. The growing export business has significantly reduced the availability of donkeys for local sale, as traders are primarily focused on meeting the high demand from China.

Export to China Continues to Grow
In July 2024, the Senate Standing Committee on Commerce recommended that authorities allow the export of live donkeys to China, rather than just their hides. The committee also noted that while donkey hide exports are unrestricted, regulations for exporting donkey meat are still being developed.
This trend highlights the impact of international demand on Pakistan’s livestock market, especially as China continues to seek out donkey hides for its expanding industries.
