Punjab govt to provide free land to Journalists

A senior journalists’ delegation met Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari at the Directo General Public Relation (DGPR) office today, where she addressed their concerns in a positive and cordial setting.

Bukhari clarified issues surrounding the Maskan Ravi project, confirming that all full-time media workers will receive plots.

The minister assured that the Maskan Ravi Scheme will proceed under Ravi Development Authority (RUDA) supervision and without PJHF involvement.

Moreover, a total of 3,200 journalists and media workers will be allotted plots, with sizes increased to 5 marlas. Priority will be given to those in Lahore, while others will receive plots in either Maskan Ravi or their local districts.

Bukhari explained that the delays were due to a restraining order filed by a journalist. She has directed her staff to expedite the case in the High Court and hopes for a swift resolution. The scheme will be re-advertised once the ban is lifted, with eligibility criteria adjusted to remove the BA requirement.

Furthermore, the meeting included discussions on future consultations and plot allocation, with only one plot per family, even if both spouses are media workers. The delegation, including Khalid Hasnain, Saber Awan, and others, acknowledged the efforts of Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari and senior journalists in advancing the project.
