The Sensitive Price Index (SPI)-based inflation for the week ending September 5, 2024, decreases to 0.15 per cent, marking the fourth consecutive weekly decrease.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday, out of 51 items monitored, prices of 19 items (37.25 per cent) rose, 13 items (25.50 per cent) fell, while 19 items (37.25 per cent) remained unchanged.

Moreover, items that saw price increases during the week included onions (3.83 per cent), gram pulse (1.65 per cent), garlic (1.38 per cent), LPG (0.9 per cent), cooked lentils (0.70 per cent), cooked beef (0.70 per cent), eggs (0.54 per cent), potatoes (0.50 per cent), basmati rice (0.34 per cent), bananas (0.22 per cent), moong pulse (0.17 per cent), and fresh milk (0.17 per cent).

Conversely, prices of items that declined included tomatoes (14.54 per cent), chicken (1.55 per cent), 20 kg wheat flour bags (1.31 per cent), chili powder (1.30 per cent), high-speed diesel (1.23 per cent), petrol (0.68 per cent), masoor pulse (0.59 per cent), sugar (0.54 per cent), mash pulse (0.49 per cent), cooking oil (0.41 per cent), Irri-6/9 rice (0.29 per cent), mustard oil (0.08 per cent), and plain bread (0.03 per cent).

Furthermore, on a year-on-year basis, weekly inflation recorded an increase of 14.07 per cent, the lowest in three years.
