RAWALPINDI: A one-day-old baby girl tragically died after slipping from a nurse’s hands and falling to the ground at Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi, according to reports that emerged on Saturday. The incident occurred on August 23, in front of the infant’s mother, Amina Bibi, who witnessed the fatal fall.
Following the incident, the nurse reportedly placed the deceased infant on a bench and left the hospital room. The grieving mother has since filed a complaint with the hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS), Dr. Ijaz Butt, accusing the nurse of negligence.
In response, Dr. Butt has formed an inquiry committee composed of three doctors: Dr. Farooq Kasana, Dr. Nadeem Malik, and Professor Khansa. The committee is expected to submit its report on Monday, with Dr. Butt assuring the family that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
In her complaint, Amina Bibi also accused the hospital staff of mistreatment before the delivery. She recounted that upon arriving at the hospital for a checkup, an ultrasound revealed decreasing amniotic fluid levels, leading to her admission. However, she alleged that the doctors failed to conduct follow-up examinations or prescribe any necessary medications.

Despite experiencing pain, Amina Bibi claimed she was denied access to the bathroom and was not treated well by the doctor. She further accused the staff of misplacing her medical records and providing inadequate care. According to her, when her labor began, she was transferred to the labor room, where she alleges the baby was delivered on a chair under substandard conditions.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage and calls for accountability as the hospital’s inquiry continues.
