Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, a 13-year-old chess sensation from Turkey, has made history by becoming the youngest player ever to surpass a 2600 ELO rating, earning the prestigious grandmaster title in the process.
The Turkish Chess Federation announced the achievement, stating, “Our star athlete Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, who holds the title of the world’s youngest grandmaster, has become the youngest player to exceed the 2600 ELO rating with his outstanding performance at the Abu Dhabi Chess Festival.”
The ELO rating system, widely used in chess and esports, measures the relative skill levels of players. Reaching a 2600 rating typically places a player among the top 100 in the world, though this ranking can fluctuate depending on the active pool of players.

In chess, a player with a rating of 2500 or above is recognised as a grandmaster, while those who achieve a rating of 2700 or higher are often referred to as “super grandmasters.” Erdogmus’s remarkable accomplishment places him in the upper echelon of the chess world at an exceptionally young age.
