Pakistan’s city Sukkur has been hit with unprecedented rainfall this monsoon season, with the city recording 290mm of rain in just one day, breaking a 77-year-old record.
According to a statement from provincial authorities on Sunday, Sukkur’s recent rainfall has been the most significant in nearly eight decades.
Earlier this month, heavy rainfall shattered a 44-year record in Lahore. This monsoon season, many areas across the country have been severely affected, with experts linking the extreme weather to climate change.

From July 1 to August 17, at least 195 people have died, and 362 have been injured in various rain-related incidents nationwide.
Notably, Pakistan contributes less than 1 percent to global greenhouse gas emissions, yet it remains one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change.
