The Punjab government announced a Rs14 per unit reduction in electricity rates, but this relief is limited. It will apply only to consumers using between 201 and 500 units per month, excluding those who use up to 200 units.

The plan does not cover consumers using 200 units or less, as their rates had not been increased previously. The relief will be applied to the billing cycles for August and September 2024.

According to former PM Nawaz Sharif, Punjab government will provide a Rs14 per unit reduction in electricity bills for consumers using up to 500 units in August and September.

He stated that this relief, made possible by cutting government expenses, involves reallocating Rs45 billion from the development budget. Sharif, accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, made the announcement during a press conference in Lahore.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her efforts to provide relief, emphasizing the government’s commitment to public welfare. Information Minister Atta Tarar added that Nawaz Sharif’s empathy for the people drives these initiatives.
