Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has taken the box office by storm, setting a new record as the biggest opener of 2024. The film has outperformed its predecessor and surpassed major releases such as last year’s Gadar 2 and this year’s Kalki 2898 AD.

The anticipation for Stree 2 was high, with paid previews held on Wednesday night contributing to the film’s early success. The advance bookings alone generated ₹20 crore by midnight on the day of release, foreshadowing a record-breaking opening.

According to Sacnilk, the paid previews brought in ₹8.35 crore, while the first-day collection soared to ₹46 crore, bringing the total opening day earnings to ₹54.35 crore.

This impressive performance has positioned Stree 2 as the top-grossing film of the year so far, surpassing the likes of Kalki 2898 AD and Fighter. The film’s release on the Independence Day holiday provided a significant boost, helping it dominate the box office despite competition from two other major releases, Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa. Both films, however, lagged behind, with Khel Khel Mein earning ₹6 crore and Vedaa bringing in ₹4.50 crore on their opening day.

Trade analysts attribute Stree 2’s success to its strong performance across all circuits in the country, which contributed to its staggering box office numbers. While Khel Khel Mein is considered a well-made film with strong entertainment value, experts suggest that a different release date might have allowed it to perform better.

As the weekend approaches, Stree 2 is expected to maintain its stronghold on the box office, with the upcoming Raksha Bandhan holiday potentially boosting the earnings of all three films through positive word of mouth.
