PESHAWAR (Zeeshan Kakakhel): Shakeel Ahmed, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Communication and Works, has resigned from his position following a public dispute with Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur. The resignation, effective from August 16, 2024, was formally submitted on Thursday night.
In his resignation letter, Ahmed criticised Gandapur’s administration for straying from the core “anti-corruption” and “anti-establishment” principles that were central to their election campaign. Ahmed, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, argued that the government’s actions have tarnished the party’s image among its voter base.

Ahmed further stated in an exclusive conversation with Azaad Digital’s correspondent, Zeeshan Kakakhel, that being part of the cabinet in this corrupt system was no longer tenable for him. He accused CM Gandapur of being the leader of corruption in the province.
Ahmed’s resignation follows a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail two weeks ago. Subsequently, Ahmed addressed the media at the Peshawar Press Club, subtly criticising actions of CM Gandapur actions, which he implied were contrary to Khan’s instructions.
Ahmed’s resignation underscores ongoing internal conflicts within the KP government and the PTI, reflecting broader challenges the administration faces in adhering to its foundational promises of governance.
